YLO umpires dress like professionals. A sharp, consistent appearance sets the tone before the first pitch — players, coaches, and parents form their first impression before the game starts. 

Approved Shirts

• Only V2 or V3 shirts in Sky Blue or Black.

• Crews may wear Red, White, or Tan only if every umpire matches — these colors are being phased out and should not be purchased.

• Old styles or mismatched shirts are not allowed. Fine: $10 per game.

• Youth exception: if adult smalls are too large, wear a solid black or sky blue polo.

• Buying one shirt? V3 shirts are required beginning in 2027.

Other Uniform Fines ($10 each) 

• White or ankle socks

• Shoes that are not black or black/white

• Missing belt

Checklist — All Umpires 

• YLO hat (never worn backwards, including behind the plate)

• Umpire shirt

• Charcoal gray pleated umpire pants

• Black umpire belt

• Black or black/white shoes (never cleats — clean them before games)

• Black ball bag

• Indicator (held in the left hand)

• Plate brush

• Protective cup

• Mask or hockey-style helmet

• Shin guards

• Plate shoes
